Sightseeing information of Shiroishi
A castle that belonged to Kojuro Katakura, an aide of Masamune Date.
Located approximately 15 minutes away from Ichijo by car.
It is located in between Ichijo and JR Shiroishi Station, Shiroishi Zao Station.
Shiroishi Castle is definitely worth visiting in the season of cherry blossoms.
You can even access the castle tower.
Shimakawa Kinenkan Museum
“Shimakawa Kinenkan Museum” is surrounded by greens, and you can get an amazing view of the Zao mountain range from there.
Takaya Shimakawa, a business owner who used to run various business in Sendai, has his collection of art pieces on display for local residents to visit and enjoy.
*Located approximately half an hour from Kamasaki Onsen by car.
Zaimokuiwa is designated as a natural monument of Japan.
The park is located approximately half an hour away from Ichijo by car.
If you drive past the park, you will be headed to Yamagata.
We recommend you to visit the park in summer if you want to play with water and take a walk around. Highly recommended to families with small children. Dumplings and Soba served at Kendan Yashiki are recommended as well.
Drive up the Miyagi Zao Echo Line, and you will encounter what is called Okama.
Located approximately an hour away from Ichijo, we recommend you to drive on the Echo Line while enjoying the sight of beautiful autumn leaves and a huge waterfall on the way.
However, Okama gets very crowded on weekends in its high season. We recommend you that you leave the hotel around 9AM in high seasons.
Honetu Otaki in Shichigashuku
You can get an amazing view of a huge waterfall once you go down the stairs next to “Shun-no-Ichi” market.
There is a dam called Shichigashuku dam located approximately an hour away from Ichijo. Recommended to visit in summer. Shopping at “Shun-no-Ichi” is very fun as well.
Quiet and calm Chourouko Lake is most beautiful around the time of autumn leaves.

Zao Heart Land
Zao Heart Land offers dairy products made in Zao.
You can take a walk around the farm, interact with little animals, and enjoy Zao cheese and shopping.

The best season to visit: Spring ~ Autumn
From Ichijo to Sendai takes about an hour by car via Tohoku Expressway.
If you take a Shinkansen, it only takes 15 minutes.
Toru Komuro, an artist who created the equestrian statue of Masamune Date, made a countless number of art pieces while staying here at Ichijo.
Sendai Uminomori Aquarium
Sendai Uminomori Aquarium is located approximately an hour away from Kamasaki Onsen.
Built recently in 2015, they have one of the biggest pools in Tohoku and the very first dolphin show in all of Tohoku.
Many tourists visit Matsushima to admire its beautiful scenery.
It takes approximately an hour from Ichijo by car.
Get on Tohoku Expressway at Shiroishi IC and get off at Matsuhima Kaigan IC.
If you are staying at Ichijo for consecutive days, it might be a good idea to visit Matsushima.
